About  Stephen Destefano

Being blessed with a family lineage of Couture Tailors, Shoemakers, Craftsmen and Fine Artists gave Stephen a DNA charged start to absorb, develop, and practice his own artistic sensibilities.

After graduating with a degree in Art from Southern Connecticut State University Stephen went on to carve out a career as a Graphic Artist. His talents were soon recognized and he became sought after for his ability to create and retouch digital imagery. He worked extensively over the years with high-end clients such as Ralph Lauren, Victoria Secret, Lord & Taylor, Jones NY, Ann Kline, WWE, and Martha Stewart to name a few.

Throughout his career, Stephen always found the time to still make his own art, but now has decided to return back to his roots as a full-time "fine artist". His current medium of choice is painting.

Artist Statement

I've always admired different artistic movements and the artists that have created them. I've often contemplated what it would be like to take them and extract the essence of their content and combine them together to come up with a new " Visual Vocabulary ". The challenge I set up for myself is to use that language to tell a new and different story. What does it look like when you combine Abstract Expressionism with Pop Art, Surrealism, Op Art, Realism, Tromp L' Oeil, Symbolism, or even a direct visual from history and use it all to say something new? Lately, I've been moved by our political dysfunction and the forces that influence such a partisan culture. I'm also very concerned about our self-induced crisis of global warming and planetary pollution. My current work tries to bring all the visuals and messages together in a harmonious way to create commentary.
